Founded by Radu Remus Macovei (he/his), Stuff Studio gathers a portfolio of architectural and urban planning & design work across academic, experimental, research and uncategorizable areas.
Radu Remus Macovei is a Registered Architect in New York, urban planner and educator, currently a Doctoral Fellow at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology ETH - Zürich. His ongoing doctoral research focuses on the relationship between vernacular and modern architecture, peripatetic architecture, geography and identity in 20th c. East-Central Europe. This topic builds on design research he developed through Harvard University’s Appleton Fellowship (2020) and Robert A.M. Stern’s Traveling Fellowship (2019) which enabled him to pursue fieldwork and develop large-scale wooden models cohering archaic and contemporary woodworking techniques.
Before starting his doctoral research, Radu Remus was the Fitzhugh Scott Fellow at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee where he taught beginning and advanced design studios and a theory seminar which investigated how material culture and social phenomena enable architectures in a state of flux. Prior to his academic appointments, Macovei worked for various international architecture practices, most notably at Diller Scofidio + Renfro (New York City, USA) and Herzog & de Meuron (Basel, Switzerland). He has also consulted the United Nations Human Settlements Organization (Nairobi, Kenya) on inclusive and sustainable urban regeneration.
Macovei graduated with a Master in Architecture with Distinction and a Master in Urban Planning with Distinction from Harvard University Graduate School of Design (Cambridge, USA) and pursued undergraduate studies at the Architectural Association (London, UK).
